OBJECTIVES: (Competency)

 

  • How well do you understand your friends between classes and outside the school?  Rate each area on a scale of 1-5 (1 being most difficult to communicate and 5 being no difficulty communicating)
    • At lunch time?
    • On the phone?
    • On the bus?
    • At sleepovers?
    • At restaurants?
    • Birthday parties?
    • School trips, assembly, and events?
  • What do different facial expressions and body language mean?
  • Can you recognize emotion without visual cues?
  • Can you recognize sarcasm and humor?

OBJECTIVES: (Relatedness)

 

  • When are times when your friends may have misunderstood or misheard?
  • Do you think your friends have difficulty hearing in social communication?
  • Describe your experiences when communication breaks down. What did that feel like, what did you do, and what did you learn?

OBJECTIVES: (Autonomy)

 

  • I understand what I need to do during a communication breakdown.(e.g. ask for repetition)
  • Do you feel comfortable sharing your hearing loss with your peers? And answering questions?
    • How and when do you want to do this?
  • Do you feel comfortable expressing your communication needs to your peers?
  • Do you move your body to facilitate understanding?
  • Do you move your seating location to optimize communication?
  • How do you manage when you don’t hear well?
